From May to June, the Plateau-Mont-Royal Library is extremely proud to welcome a writer-in-residence, the talented Maude Jarry, author of Si j'étais un motel j'affiche jamais sold-out. Maude will be present in the library to meet users, offer a public writer service and mentorship for young writers, lead workshops and conferences, in addition to working on a collective poem project. Stay tuned for our social media posts for the full schedule of activities!

of the uterus: exhibition and vernissageThis collaborative project developed by three artists of Iranian origin - Khosro Brahmandi, painter; Hadi Jamali, media artist; and ceramicist Reihan Ebrahim explores the correlation between Earth, death and rebirth. The Earth as the womb of nature, embraces death, shelters it and nourishes it to grant it a new cycle of birth/life. The exhibition offers a contemplative environment that reveals a mythological world and embraces life under and above the earth. An exhibition presented as part of the Festival Accès Asie. Alokori - An Laurence et Sara ConstantThe duo Alokori - An Laurence, guitar and vocals; and Sara Constant, flute and electronics - presents a brand new work of acoustic, electronic and sound performance of their own inspired by the metaphors of distance, the fragility of belonging and the construction of a home. Halfway between performance and installation, Alokori's new work expresses itself through sound, narration and movement, and uses musical performance and electronic devices to create a nostalgic soundscape. Wives! - Yama LaurentYama Laurent is a singer and author of Haitian origin whose journey punctuated by the need for resilience and the happiness of unexpected encounters. Between historical narrative and introspection, Yama goes through her journey as a woman and a performer, and tells us how these great figures have changed, one after the other, her life and her voice. A show to the sound of jazz, soul and pop, with great classics (Aretha Franklin, Alberta Hunter, Nina Simone, etc.) and new compositions by Yama Laurent. Candy opera: Hansel and Gretel's gourmet adventureThis introduction to opera and the lyrical voice forms a delicious show that can be enjoyed like candy! Once upon a time, there were two very laughing singers who wanted to tell the story of Hansel and Gretel to music. Their very clever friend tries to give them a hand, but with his gluttony and distraction, he always has his feet in the dishes... especially in the candy dish! How do you hold your attention? Perhaps by entrusting him with an important role in the story! Director Alain Gauthier conducts Pascal Blanchet's free and zany adaptation of Engelbert Humperdinck's famous opera Hansel et Gretel, starring Cécile Muhire, Charlotte Gagnon, Guillaume Rodrigue and Carl Matthieu Neher. Every spring since 2010, Festilou has offered free storytelling for young audiences in Montreal. Pascal Guéran presents his "paper dreams", a small world of stories told using folded papers, inspired by the origami of the Japanese tradition. A show full of delicacy and serenity.
