Discover the beautiful city of Guanajuato with this marvellous guided tour and learn all about its main attractions. Famed for its old-style colonial architecture, Guanajuato is bound to capture your imagination with its charming cobblestone streets and fascinating legends of olden times.
The first stop will be the Museum of the Mummies. This grisly museum contains around 100 mummified corpses of some of the victims of the cholera outbreak of 1833, disinterred between 1865 and 1933 when their relatives could not pay the burial tax.
Then we will climb up into the hills above the city, heading for the Monument to Pipila, where you will enjoy breathtaking views over Guanajuato, before driving through the tunnels of the old residential area where we will visit a mine in the district of Valenciana.
Next stop is the impressive Church of San Cayetano, dating from Spanish colonial times, built in the Churrigueresque style and containing beautifully gilded altar pieces. We'll then pay a visit to the Dungeons of the Holy Inquisition where several artefacts and instruments of torture from this dark period of history are on show.
Finally we will visit a local market where you can try some of the region's typical cakes and pastries.
