Admire the stunning landscapes of the alps as you make your way through Salzburg through to the picturesque mountain area of Obersalzberg.
Enjoy a scenic ride high into the mountains towards the Kehlsteinhaus, (Eagle’s Nest), where on a clear day you can admire the stunning panoramic views that expand for miles over Berchtesgaden and the surrounding countryside.
On arrival, stroll through a bricked entry tunnel which will lead you to the ornate elevator, decorated with brass, Venetian mirrors, and green leather, which will take you more than 120 meters through the mountain and directly into the chalet.
The Eagle’s Nest is falsely rumored to have been a 50th birthday gift to Hitler from his secretary, Martin Bormann. Its construction consisted of an extremely expensive access road, which included five tunnels, built over a 13-month period. It was used exclusively by members of the Nazi Party for government and social meetings, and Hitler rarely visited as he was afraid of heights. It is the only surviving relic of those used by the Nazi dictator in this scenic area.
This Alpine retreat is a masterpiece of modern architecture and was decorated with furniture made by one of the leading designers of the era. In the main reception room, you will see the grand red Italian marble fireplace which was a present from the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
Discover the Eagle’s Nest as it would have been in its original state as it was spared from being blown up after the war. Enjoy some free time to explore the old conference room, the dining area, the small tea room, and the terraces, while your guide will explain the background of this beautiful property with a dark past.
