Marvel at the beauty of ancient Mayan architecture with this tour of discovery. First we take you to Tulum, the only Mayan city that overlooks the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. After that exaltation of the past, make your way to the second part of your journey, which is a pure exaltation of the moment: Xel-Há, the largest natural aquarium in the world, where you can snorkel through its azure waters or simply bask in the warm Mexican sun.
As you make your way towards Tulum, let the sight of the city ruins astound you as they slowly crawl over the horizon and into your line of vision. Perched atop a majestic cliff and overlooking the striking almost unnatural blue of the Caribbean, Tulum used to be a walled city and, many believe, a major Mayan port. The ruins that now remain are ghostly yet stand stoically against the pass of time. Contemplate the amazing frescoes that cover the wall of one temple; the ominous temple of the descending god; and, last but not least, the magnificent El Castillo, the temple built upon a cliff with commanding views of the coast.
After that informative history session, journey to the wonders of Xel-Há. This natural aquarium is renowned around the world for its countless groups of brightly coloured tropical fish that ever scuttle beneath the surface. It also contains some dramatic limestone formations that make a wondrous backdrop. Spend your time as you please upon this little paradise, be it in the water or on the white sand.
