Meet the women who marked the history of our city: writers, poets, nurses, journalists. Throughout the centuries there have been many women who have left their mark on the city of A Coruña, turning several of them into outstanding figures in the history of Spain.
On our night tour you will discover many women from the city who were ahead of the times in which they lived and knew how to take a step forward, becoming historical references in different fields.
We will start at the Plaza de María Pita, named after our local heroine. There we will reveal its history, you will know the details of how it was able to face the English troops in 1589.
We will continue speaking in feminine when we arrive at the church of San Jorge where we will talk about the story of two young people who tried to live a love ahead of its time, a story that not only shocked Galician society but also foreign society and that has recently been taken to movie theater.
As we advance in our tour we will also do it in time and we will place ourselves in the middle of the 19th century, a moment in which the most transgressive women of our city emerged, such as Emilia Pardo Bazán, Rosalía de Castro, among others. We will finish in the Marina area, the ideal place to talk about the first nurse in history on an international mission.
