Discover and explore the historical centre of the magnificent city of Guanajuato in this four hour walking tour and learn all about the fascinating history, culture and legends of this old colonial town.
The historic town centre of Guanajuato was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 and you'll see why as we stroll around narrow lanes, cobbled alleyways and underground streets. The area is packed with unique baroque and neo-classical architecture, with dozens of buildings dating from the 16th to the 19th Century.
Some of the buildings we will see include the neo-classical Juarez Theatre, generally considered to be one of the most beautiful theatres in the country, the Convent of San Pedro de Alcantara, the Basilica of Guanajuato dating from the 17th Century, the University, the Old City Hall and the massive Alhondiga de Granaditas, an old grain store that was the site of the first battle of the Mexican War of Independence. We will also visit the Callejon del Beso (the Alley of the Kiss) where it is said that if lovers kiss on the third step, they are guaranteed seven years happiness together.
This guided tour takes approximately 4 hours and includes hotel pick up and drop off and transfer. Please note that admission to the Juarez Theatre and Alhondiga de Granaditas is not included. We suggest you bring comfortable shoes and clothes, sunglasses and a cap, sun block and extra cash in case you want to purchase souvenirs or food.
